INTAGLIO + AQUATINT PRINTS: ROCK HEART
Aquatint is similar to etching, however the difference is how you use the technique. To create tonal value rather than lines is using the printmaking technique, which is Aquatint. This technique allows the viewer to see gradations of tones. I varied the length of time each time I dipped my copper plate in and out the acid bath to create darker areas of tones on just half my plate. These prints also came as a set. The three prints were inspired and created based on this theme of life and death. I took a printmaking class and after my prints were dried I thought it would be interesting to combine this like machine-made print and infuse a little bit of this hand-made vibe to it. So if you look at the picture with all three prints in the bottom right corner you can see I stitched x’s down the heart. I also created vinyl rose petals to create a weathered rose background. I got to experiment with a lot of techniques in this print and that’s also how this print got it’s title “Rock HeART”
