Video and Sound Art
Excerpts
This short video art project, titled Rose & Sparkling Cider is a reinterpretation of Pipilotti Rist's "Ever is Over All" (1997) video installation that inspired Beyonce's "Lemonade" music video. This video highlights the tension between what it means to be feminine in modern society and mental health implications of this conflict.
This video art piece titled Pigments of a Movement metaphors the rise of a political, social or environmental movement and illustrates the importance of collaboration between individual voices to create change.
This sound art piece, For Dad: Farm Days, is a soundscape that depicts my dad's earliest sound experience. For him, he remembers helping his parents on the farm in Indiana and hearing rain on the tin roof of his family's barn and the nostalgia that this memory fills him with. My dad has always been very connected with sound as he lost some of his hearing abilities after being in the Marines in his twenties. Now as an 80 year old father of 4, it was inspiring to be able to make modern sound technology accessible to him and to further the importance of these memories in the creation of his goofy, emotive and giving legacy. Below is the recorded interview with my dad that inspired this piece.
This is the interview with my dad that inspired the sound art piece For Dad: Farm Days. In this interview one can see the specific sound memory that has stuck with him for more than 65 years: rain on his barn's tin roof. My dad does not have much experience with technology or sound art so it was very meaningful to dedicate this project to him.
