On 22 May 2017, a lone suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb outside the Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert. 22 people were killed, 250 people injured. The casualties were mainly young people and children.In the days immediately following the attack, Mancunians struggle to come to terms with events. In one of the UK’s most diverse and tolerant cities, the mood turns towards community solidarity in the face of terror. Messages of condolence, support and solidarity appear on cards, scraps of paper and pavements in the city’s St Ann’s Square.
