"On The Road / InterRail:
a trip down three decades of youth perception of traveling, through society and places"
The intention was to make a simple black and white A4 brochure of 16-24 pages that would emphasize a theme inside the main thematic of travelling. My subject being travelling as a continuous act, as a long journey, an adventure, I decided to focus on two types of travelling, the travellings in America described on Jack Kerouac's book "On The Road", and the experiences in Europe made possible because of the InterRail pass.
By the means of quotation and photography, I collected quotes from "On The Road" and from interviews from the documentary "40 years on track - The InterRail Pass Story"; and also selected photographies from famous photographers, inside the timeframe of the 3 decades best suited to transmit an historical and social visual context to what's written ("On The Road" between the 1940's - 60's, and "InterRail" betwen the 1960's - 80's). The photographies serves as a visual link between both types of travelling, and as a way to separate and entwine both travels and places.
The readibility of this brochure happens in two directions, one for "On the Road", and upside down for "InterRail", or the other way depending on how it's being held. By resorting to this format there’s always a way to compare the photographs selected for each subject, of those three decades in those two places and the role of both kinds of travel.
