Vernacular Visual Culture

An A2 size hoarding created following the guidelines and style of political hoardings found around Bangalore.

In India, we see many political hoardings stuck to trees, walls or poles in different sizes. They are hard to miss due to their bright colours and textures. Most images are given a glow to make them stand out. Most hoardings are for political campaigns while some may be for welcomes, inaugurations or celebrations. Spelling mistakes, random visual elements and huge type is very common in such hoardings.

The assignment was to make to make a hoarding following the assumed rules using a different topic besides political leaders. The topic I chose was Bollywood film stars and the rules were:
1. The size of the poster has to be A2 or bigger
2. Bold, fancy type with drop shadow, outlines, etc.
3. Random and unusual color combinations
4. Use of motifs
5. Random backgrounds and other visual elements can be added
