A Solution to Counter Violent Extremism
Problem Framing
Community engagement in the CVE domain:
1) What is the relationship between the individual and the community?
2) What circumstances prompt an individual to radicalize?
3) How may the community provide adequate resources and create a safe, preventative environment?
After interviews with community leaders, immigrants and refugees, we narrowed down our beneficiary. Our archetype user consists of the working migrant or refugee. This archetype ranges from all ages and is resettling into a new cultural environment.  They have a limited social and professional network and often feel lonely or trapped because many barriers prevent them from finding a job and thus security in this new and foreign place. They seek a safe space for a new life.
Journey Map of a Refugee
This journey map illustrates the positive journey of a refugee into community inclusion (top) versus the spiraling down into social isolation that may lead to extremism (bottom).
Solution: Prevent radicalization before it’s too late.
ReEmploy: a Refugee Networking Platform
Our platform allows refugees to build a network through local job tasks through the following steps:
         1) Each user builds a profile with their background, skills, and interests.
         2) ReEmploy pairs refugees with quick jobs that match their skills.
         3) Upon task completion, refugees and local employers are added to each other's network for                  long-term engagement. The refugee can now access the new connection's 2nd and 3rd                        degree connections.
ReEmploy plans to partner with local nonprofits for refugee verification. Platform features include a real-time language translation so that each party may communicate in their language of choice and a review system to ensure quality and accountability, along with a Humans of New York style profile to communicate each individual refugee story.
Map dashboard where refugee may view local tasks that match current skills: refugee may look up tasks for details, and upon completion becomes connected to the local tasker.
Onboarding process: platform translates to user's language, provides survey-format to resolve language ambiguities, and utilizes icons for visual communication.
Current Iteration
Workflow from task search to network connection
