A Typographic Tribute to Bell Centennial

On AT&T hundredth anniversary, Matthew Carter created Bell Centennial, a typeface designed to solve a technical and aesthetic problem introduced by changing technology. Carter also compensated for the thin ink and cheap newsprint used for phonebooks by creating "ink traps" where the strokes of the letters come together; they fill in with ink, creating a well-formed (not over-inked) letter. This project is meant to highlight the beauty and functionality of the typeface, inspired by the large "ink traps" in the letterforms.
Folio is designed to stack and form a "B", linking through the inspiration.
The actual print-out card set and the enclosing case with a diecut.
The card set is printed on textured light gray Canson paper to recreate the newsprint paper the phonebooks use.
