SYRACUSE NOTTINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL
Courtyard Redesign - Syracuse, New York, 2008

Landscape Architect, Project Lead
Award winning $450k courtyard renovation. The design features extensive plaza space for outdoor eating and gathering, areas for outdoor art display, teaching space, an amphitheater and passive recreation space. The courtyard is organized around a central rain garden which collects stormwater from the surrounding site. Water is filtered through the garden before entering a cistern where students can draw water using a hand pump for irrigating nearby planting beds. Hydrology and native habitat are design features and teaching tools which demonstrate low impact development and sustainable design. Responsibilities included site design, owner presentations, grading, integrated storm water utility design, grading, landscape design and construction administration.
