Design: Yearbook Project 2016

MINIBOOK (YEARBOOK PROJECT)
Designed for an experimental two-week yearbook project during my junior year at San Marino High School, the mini yearbook, or "minibook" features sample spreads of a yearbook conceptualized by me. The theme, "Undefined", revolves around the idea that there are no limits or barriers on what the students can be and do, thus they are "undefined".
The book is divided into 6 sections:
Student Life (Unusual)
People (Unexpected)
Academics and VAPA (Unbelievable)
Clubs and Organizations (Unlimited)
Sports (Undefeatable)
Reference (Unforgettable)

All spreads were designed by me using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, and all theme copies were written by me. My project partner specializing in photography took over half of the photographs featured in the minibook.

Many people try to confine us in a box of preconceptions and stereotypes,
but our successes speaks for themselves.
What other school is home to CIF champions, all-American athletes, and our very own good luck charm Tony Rodela?
What other school is home to national-level debater Nathan Lam, John Hopkins-bound Rose Princess Rachelle Liu, and students whose experiments went to space.
What other school is home to future rock star Mark Riemers, a choir group that went to Ireland, and musical geniuses who have played at Carnegie Hall?
What other school is home to Zucchini Man, Mr. Andrew Gayl and his crazy stories, and a science teacher who does taekwondo?
What other school is home to a student body so small yet so diverse?

There are no limits or barriers on what we can be and do. Nobody and nothing can define us.
We are the Undefined.

So what is San Marino High School?
Well, the answer isn’t so simple.
It’s the unusual days we have here
It’s the unexpected people we meet everyday
It’s the unbelievable academics and arts programs
It’s the unlimited ways we can change the world
It’s the undefeatable school spirit
It’s the unforgettable memories we make

But honestly, it’s impossible to shove us under a single category
Because we’re all of the above and none of the above at the same time.

So consider the lesson learned:

Don’t ever try to define us,
Because we are the Undefined.
