Rumah Johor Website Design

This web design project required students to create a website layout for a traditional Malaysian house from different states. As the states vary in design and use, the variety created an opportunity for the students to promote the beauty in architecture of the houses from their states of origin. As the daughter of two proud Johor-born individuals, I decided to go with the Johor's traditional house.
Research was done by visiting a Johor house in person, taking pictures of the house, and researching the history and design purposes of the house by visiting an educational tourist site in Melaka, Malaysia's proud historical state. Below are process sketches of the website design.
To start, research on local websites for the Johor house was made. Typically, a website will have multiple columns, a search box, and links to social networks and other sites. A few sketches were made to incorporate these elements into my website design, but the multiple-column design seemed repetitive and structured, and does not interact with the user. Therefore, it was something I decided to remove from the elements of my own design. After the content of what each page would hold was decided, designs for those pages were decided as well, and were made to be as interactive and unstructured as possible, while still holding an identity to it.
The original design for the website was scrapped as the use of gradient made the website look out of date.
The above serves as the loading page of the website. The website was created using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, however it was design to appear as a SWF file layout. A SWF file was not created because tutorials on using Adobe Flash was not part of the course syllabus, hence was not mandatory.
Below shows the home page of the website. The layout was designed to provide for an advertisement design for a previous product design project.
The features page was made to be an interactive map where information on features available in each room would be given when users mouse over it on the floor plan.
Below would be how the website would flow in a SWF file.
