Dominikański Square, located south from the historical center is one of the most attended places in Wrocław. Each of the surrounding modern buildings has a quite strong, individual form, rarely corresponding with the surroundings. Perhaps the most characteristic, and also controversial form is the concave corner of adjacent office building.
Proposed of the building relates to that shape, by taking a reverse shape and heavily leaning towards the empty corner. This also allows to maximize floor space on the upper levels, as the available parcel is rather small.
Unusual, extravagant form improves recognizability, which is crucial, for an institution specialized in selling expensive, high-end products. The shape of the building was inspired by works of polish designers.
The main facade of the building faces north, which provides a constant natural lightning, suitable for a design gallery.
The design gallery is meant to function both as a cultural and educational institution as well as a commercial showroom for modern designers. Potential clients could buy some of the goods directly from the galleries stock, or (especially in case of bigger objects) have them delivered home directly from the outside supplier.
Floorplans were designed to correspond with the outside form of the building, while providing multifunctional, open space. The layout is extremely simple for the visitors to navigate, as can freely circulate around the central core.
Top-level of the building can be used to organize minor events for up to 120 attendants.
Structure of the outside wall is based on rhomboidal mesh, while the pattern on the facade is created with additional triangular pannels.
Detached concrete communication core also serves as a construction element, supporting the steel ceiling beams. An elliptical reinforced concrete ring stiffens the upper end of the outside shell.
