The Dutch arrived in today’s Albany in September 1609, when Henry Hudson sailed his ship, the Half Moon, 140 miles up the river that today bears his name. Hudson and his crew explored as far north as present-day Albany, and anchored near where SUNY Plaza stands today on Broadway. A 7-foot-tall replica of the Half Moon can be seen atop the central tower of the building, commemorating his exploration.
