To create a great "coffee table" book it needs to:
Have a steal-worthy quality to it – you feel compelled to pick it up and take it with you.
Transform the surface it lies upon.
Be a collectable object, which ideally turns the sophistication dial up to “high.”
Enhances and clearly conveys the contents of each page.
Layout should be created paying great attention to detail and the overall theme.
Have a certain “je ne sais quoi" that makes it a novelty.
Cover have a tactile dimension - making it pleasing to touch as well as to read.

Contain an element of surprise – the cover doesn’t give it all away.
