Break The Rules

This piece was inspired by late 70's Hiphop. I took great influence from enter the dragon as well, which like many other 70's kung-fu movies, influenced the moves seen in breakdancing. This is why the overall piece embodies somewhat of an oriental aesthetic. I have visually attempted to represent the four elements of Hip-hop which are, emceeing (rapping), DJing, breakdancing and graffiti.
This particular piece was inspired by the Jazz era. I focused the pattern work on the combination of european music being mixed with african to create Jazz. I decide to complete this piece in an Art Deco style because art deco was also the combination of european and african visual arts being combined. The Jazz era also took place around the same time as the height of art deco.
