For this project, I wanted to focus on the sexualization and victim blaming of women in the media. As the saying goes, “sex sells,” and a lot of companies’ commercials rely on sex to sell their product. Unfortunately, this is highly gendered and mostly women are used to “sex up” their product. This reduces women to mere body parts.
Additionally, survivors of domestic or sexual violence are often blamed for what happened to them. Whether it is their blood alcohol level or what they were wearing, women are almost always questioned about how their actions led to them being assaulted. In this remix, I wanted to address the dichotomy of the media: over-sexualizing women while blaming them for the violence.
Before this project started, I was extremely familiar with Final Cut Pro X from previous projects. So when I first opened Adobe Premiere, I was immediately overwhelmed! After following several tutorials, however, I began to feel much more comfortable in the program and found it was pretty intuitive. One of the most essential skills that I learned during the course of this project is timing music with quick jump cuts. I always love any video or movie that is timed well to the audio, so learning this skill was crucial to my success.
