The three story building faces Martin Luther King Boulevard to reinforce the street edge and provide a major rear yard setback that faces the gardens of the single family house to the south. The layered street facade softens the building edge, and together with the recessed and projecting balconies breaks up the mass. The facade consists of three elements. The basic mass which continues the street edge, the metal siding which reinforces the central entrance and the layered planes, which address the corner. The rear facade is broken down with the projection of four separate elements to more closely address the scale and mass of the four single family houses to the south. The entry lobby is transparent so that occupants can observe the street scene and know who is coming and going. The communal spaces are adjacent to the entry lobby and open out to the rear garden beyond. This confluence of daily events helps reinforce a communal, active environment.
