The following was commissioned work by Psychology PhD student Neil McLatchie. The task was to create a logo for use on his newly created Wordpress blog. I began a more simple approach of merely displaying his name and initials, albeit stylised, before I introduced recognisable symbols for psychology and science, including a highly stylised helix. When these designs were not working, I looked at whether I could incorporate the axon (a neuron that would be instantly recognisable to psychologists) and finally landed on the idea of building the name in to the axon stem, an idea that Neil McLatchie liked, and has now gone on to be used.
