Basic Principles of Design
Activity 2
Abstract Art: Layers and Opacity
In this project, we were asked to create an abstract piece using Photoshop. In Photoshop we had to choose a single colour and play around with the shades by adjusting the opacity in each individual layer and shape. The shapes were created using the ellipse tool. When a new shape is created, it is made onto its own layer which made it much easier to adjust the opacity of the shapes and adjust the position of the circles.

Activity 4
Autumn Marquee Image
In this activity we were asked to find a high quality image of autumn and to edit the image in only one layer and the marquee tool. We had to select several pixels at once, with the help of the marquee tool, and to play around with the image adjustments such as the hue/saturation, brightness/contrast. I had selected groups of pixels vertically and used only the hue/saturation settings to create a fading dull to bright affect.
Activity 5
Desaturation
In this project, we were asked to take an image and select objects that you want to remain the same colour as you desaturate the rest of the image. We were asked to demonstrate and practice this with a car at first, then we were able to choose an image of our choice. In the image above, I had selected an image from the cartoon Rick & Morty and decided to desaturate the background while the main characters remain their original colours. To do this, we used the magnetic lasso tool to select the objects, from here we inverse the selection and adjust the saturation to the lowest setting.
In this quick activity, we were asked to use the magnetic lasso tool once again to select an object in an image and place it into another background. The only struggle I had with this activity was resizing Lightning McQueen to match the size of the cars on the track. I had to select the wheel using the magnetic lasso tool and shrink it to make McQueen more realistic and blend in with the other cars.
Clone Stamp Tool
In this activity, we were asked to demonstrate the use of the clone stamp tool and the healing brush/spot healing tool. We were assigned three assignments, one simple, one more difficult, and one complex project. For the simple assignment, I found an image of fighter jets lined up in a diamond shape, and I removed four of them using the clone stamp tool and blemish removal tool to leave only the five bottom jets in the image. For each jet, I started from the front of the of the jet and made my way down horizontally down the jet to ensure I keep the blended blue sky around the jet to perceive it was never there. For the more complex image, I had found an old image of the band One Direction with Zayn in the middle, making it easier for me to remove him from the image, due to his choice of leaving the band. I used the healing brush/spot healing tool a lot in this assignment, because I had to blend the grey background every time there was evidence of the clone stamp tool, such as repetition of pixels. For the final assignment, I had found a magazine cover with Kevin Hart on the cover and simply removed the text, resulting in an image of just Kevin Hart. I had used the healing brush/spot healing tool a lot, especially on the jacket and shirt because I had used the clone stamp tool a lot too, so I had to blend the pixels to where the text once was.
Activity 6
Skin Blemish Removal
Smooth and Soften Skin
Change Eye Colour
In this activity, we were asked to use the spot healing tool/healing brush tool once again but on a person to eliminate acne from their face. I had taken a picture of my friend and simply eliminated the acne from his face using the healing brush and spot healing tool to give my friend perfect and smooth looking skin. We were also tasked to follow tutorials, one on how to make skin look softer and smoother in Photoshop, the image I used was an image of Obama. The second tutorial was a tutorial on how to change the eye colour on a person, using the magnetic selection tool again and playing with the layer options.

Working with Indesign
Reference
In this activity, we were introduced to Adobe Indesign and were asked to create a page that would come from a cookbook using any recipe. When making the page, we Googled templates and cookbook page designs for reference/inspiration. My image is similar from my reference, by the side bars matching the image of the food.
