This portrait project is mainly inspired by Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879), one of the first photographers in the UK - and female. She took amazing portraits that haven't dated much at all. I have looked at specific portraits by Cameron, as well as portraits of and by other females, including the famous Beresford portrait of her from 1902, and taken inspiration from them to create new, contemporary portraits. I've looked at the use of light, poses, clothes and props but mainly I've tried to create an atmosphere and sensitivity in the photographs. - Sarah Toure
