The inspiration for the logo of the 70th jubilee Congress of FIAF, to be held in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, comes from the very first frame shot by the pioneer of the Macedonian and Balkan cinematography, the Manaki brothers.
With their Camera 300, in 1907 the Manaki brothers were shooting their 114 years old grandmother Despina spinning. Igor Stardelov in his book “Manaki” said: “…an extraordinary connection exists in the first shot made by these two pioneers of cinematography: while Despina, the grandmother, was spinning the wheel, the film reel started spinning on the Balkan Peninsula as well”. It is believed that grandmother Despina was the only woman born in 18th century shot by a camera. It presents contribution of our cinematographers to the world history of the moving pictures.
