popio / grief jewerly
Mourning might be experienced not only when we lose a person dear to us over their death. It is also connected to other types of loss: breakups, divorces and even dramatic changes of the environment we live in.
While working with the subject of grief, I explored the healing power behind burning memorabilia (journals, photographs, letters or documents) related to the person or place which one have lost.
For the purpose of the project, I focused on burning love letters and transforming the ashes into a new, concrete-like material. As I mixed the ashes with water and fleur, I gave my memories a completely new and not-so-obvious form.
The material became a base of POPIO jewerly which main focus is to give its wearer the ability to process the grief slowly and in one's own way. Wearing a symbol of a loss can help in taming and accepting it.
