Story Theme | 'Community'
Photo-essays are stories that are told predominantly through the use of photographs. As part of a Photography module, Digital Media trainees brainstorm, research and pursue stories worth telling; stories that provide others with unique insights into spaces that exists in the community around them. They then set out with their cameras to engage and explore and to capture collections of images that reflect these spaces and the stories that happen within them.
The sky is low. The clouds move in. The wind in your face. The ocean spray around you. The hum of the engine. The swish of the ropes. The teeming oyster beds. The rattle of the oyster clusters on the bench. Wash. Separate. Basket Up. Bring inland. A good day's work.
The Corner Shop is now almost a thing of the past. Supermarkets are cheaper, but do they know you like I do? Multiples are easier but do they know what you really want, like I do? Do they have the time to talk to you? A kind word. A little bit of advice. An important bit of news. One thing's for sure, they don't do credit like I do. When times get tough, they wouldn't let you put your few bits down on 'tick'. Like I do.
Beehive Theatre Company is Europe's westernmost theatre. Over the last two decades, the company has established itself as an innovative theatre company producing theatre, music, dance attracting local and international talent. They nurture as well. Drama, playwriting, and production skills class are taught.
Early morning mucking out, and so begins another day. This is grassroots, bread and butter racing. The team is small and very dedicated and all are engaged in the running of the yard. There is only one mantra here; get the horses ready for race day, for a successful day at the track is a successful day for the stable.
The Men’s Shed is a global phenomenon . Set up as a space for men to gather and discuss their experiences, the men’s shed is deeply rooted in the community. There is an emphasis on skills exchange and social inclusion and a strong inclination to undertake projects that represent strong local interests.
