With an exciting new body of work in progress, I needed a sketchbook that would ignite my imagination. I always love to adorn my journals, sketchbooks and altered books as a visually stimulating way to jump start my creativity. When I allow myself to play with drawing, painting and sculpting materials, I open the door for insight and discoveries to enter, breathing new life into my work and process!Featured above is the start of my new sketchbook cover. I created the aged headpiece using Celluclay, a paper-based sculpting material. The background is being layered up and still in-process. I love the look of a dimensional cover, as it provides an intriguing focal point that has a meaningful message. When I open the sketchbook, I open a gateway to another realm. The inside cover also has a layered look. Using collage techniques and molding paste, I created an interesting textured environment. Many of the mixed-media techniques I use are demonstrated in my book Experimental Painting if you are interested.
