"After the Division"
This series was inspired by a recent reading of Plato's Symposium. I was particularly struck by Aristophanes' myth about the Androgyne and there subsequent division by the gods. I imagined what it would be like to watch two halves of a whole trying to come back together. Working with dancers allowed for some beautiful and emotional moments that can take the breath away.
There is a big difference between dance photography and levitation photography. All of the images in this series are real and have not been manipulated. If the dancers appear to be floating it is because they jumped and the group pictures happened all at the same time. It is important that the viewer know when they are seeing something real.
