Awareness campaign on Water,Sanitation & Hygiene

An evening in a Loni village, Gaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, aisa nazara shayad bharat ke har gaon mai aapko dekhne ko milega. Children playing outdoor games, elders sitting on verandah discussing various issues, women making hot snacks and so on - sans these, life would be incomplete for any villager. But, here's a small village in Gaziabad, where people are deprived of these fun. Even guest fear to come to the village due to the unhygienic conditions surrounding it.

This village is surrounded by sewage water. People here are forced to walk nearly two km to get potable water. And according to the residents here, their panchayat president, Rahemdeen seems to be least bothered about these issues according to the villagers. Open sewage has by now become a part of their life. What has added their troubles is the pit where the sewage water is released. The sewage pit has also become the breeding place for mosquitoes.

Also, there are no proper toilets especially for females. They have no alternative and only way is to go out in the farms and defecate which leads to diseases and various infections. Improper drainage system also leads to all this. Poor conditions of road, no medical facilities and other unhygienic conditions leads to a life disaster for the villagers.

Mr. Aarif Khan, a resident of the Loni village, says that it is impossible to keep the doors and windows open after 4 pm and due to this many diseases occur like dengue, malaria etc.

"These days, people even refuse to visit us during the nights due to the unhygienic condition of our village. We are unable to send our children out due to the increasing number of mosquitoes. They might carry various diseases with them," says Noorie Khan, another resident.

"Our complaints seems to be falling deaf ears. An immediate action needs to be taken to manage the sewage. Recycle it if it's possible because we have to walk till other side of the village, which is 2 km away, to get potable water," cry these residents.

People say that if the district administration puts effort, the problems of all the villagers in this union could be solved to a great extent.
