Comic Illustration, 'The Sacrifice'

‘The Sacrifice” is a pen & ink comic illustration about a memory from my childhood. The memory is one that has not left my mind for over fifteen years, as it was the moment in my life when I learnt what love meant.

The two characters in my story are my older sister, Lauren, who was about six or seven at the time, and myself, at about four or five. When my sister selflessly and thoughtlessly gave her ice cream to me when mine had fallen, initially I couldn’t understand why she did it. After walking hand in hand with my sister and seeing how happy she was that I was happy, I realised that she did it because she loved me. To love somone, means to make sacfrices for that persons’ happiness, no matter how big or small those sacrifices may be.
