It is essential not to miss out on their family's precious moments and their safety. BéKKU is a consumer house robot that allows users to bond efficiently with their family even when they are away from home and provide parental vision for your home.
MOST CHILDREN LIVE IN HOUSEHOLDS WHERE ALL PARENTS WORK
Today, across married and single parent families, all parents are working in more than 6 out of every 10 households with children. This includes both dual-earner couples as well as single working parents, both of which have been increasing. This steady increase over the last 40 years also holds for families with kids where the youngest child is under one-year old.
ELDERCARE IS A GROWING RESPONSIBILITY OF WORKERS
Approximately 40 million Americans (16 percent of the population aged 15 and older) provide unpaid care to an elderly, relative, or friend each year. When providing eldercare, caregivers engage in a variety of activities, including providing physical and medical care, helping with housework, and socializing and communicating.
NEEDS OF 21st CENTURY WORKERS AND FAMILY
Workers struggling to balance their work and family obligations are increasingly choosing to work for employers that offer flexibility, and workers, in some cases, are leaving jobs that don’t offer the flexibility or time off they need to address their family responsibilities.
WHAT CAN BÉKKU IMPROVE?
There are numerous features that BéKKU offers, but main purpose of BéKKU is to keep the household members connected, allowing them to feel much more connected even when someone is away from home. Second feature is to secure the house day and night. By recording a video when nobody is home or sleeping and send recorded videos to the main user’s phone. Third feature provides to check on family members’ physical status and current location. And lastly, entertainment feature for family members by providing IoT such as web, streaming videos, games, etc.
INTERFACE COLOR INSPIRATION
The interface color palette was inspired by the natural gradation of sunrises and sunsets to bring the users into a state of comfort when using BéKKU. The UI was designed with simple icons that communicate with any age group to quickly and easily understand features.
HOME / BÉKKU INTERFACE
Users who are at home will be using this interface to interact with other family members outside of the house, interact with BéKKU for entertainment, and personal scheduling.
AWAY / MOBILE BÉKKU APPLICATION
Users who are away from their house will be using a mobile application of the BéKKU to interact with other family members who are at home, enable home security, and activate smart-home controls.
BEING PART OF THE HOME
Inspiration of BéKKU design was from small sculptures and ceramics which most households would have, so it can be naturally integrated with user's home environment.
PHASE MOTION
The movement of the BéKKU screen was inspired by the sequence of the moon phase. The platform that the BéKKU screen sits on is bowl shaped, activating with a lively display. The inclined angle of the activated screen is maximized for comfort when a user is using BéKKU on tables or surfaces.
REAR PROJECTOR
On the back of BéKKU, a projector is installed so that users can project the top screen of BéKKU onto a wall or canvas for a wider display.
BOTTOM VENTILATION
Ventilation is placed at the bottom rear of BéKKU, designed to relieve heat and away from users.
