SERVICE :: Redesign of their visual identity and new marketing approach
In 2007 I was approached by a former member of our faculty and asked to help with some modifications to the Higher Education Legislative Coalition's letterhead. The Coalition formed to unite universities and various bargaining groups as a positive "lobbying" group with the Illinois Legislature. It was readily apparent that this project was a high priority for our campus and others in the state and also readily apparent was the need to move the group to a new level of professionalism via both marketing and design assistance. I began the redesign of the group's visual identity working with them in Springfield and then moved on from that to tackling a new approach to their marketing.
The Coalition needed to present a united front to our state legislators while also selling the value of higher education in a political climate that was not friendly to our campuses. Instead of an aggressively confrontational approach which could serve to further separate the parties, I chose to approach the issues as a common set of problems that affect us all in the state of Illinois. My pitch to the group was successful. The products of this collaboration included proposed print advertisements which we modified to allow individuals to write a hand written message on the back of the postcard to be left with legislators and other key players.
