Materiality: Part 2 of 3

Industrial design and architecture have a symbiotic relationship with one another. Exploration of materiality, methods of making, and constructing volumes are essential to both practices.  In Materiality: Part 2, I explore materiality by adapting and integrating Marc Newson's design methodology with that of Ron Arad's in order to create a hybrid of innovative ways to construct and occupy space.
Presentation Board:
"Materiality: Part 2" is an exploration of the similar and dissimilar materials, methods and volume construction techniques used by industrial designers Marc Newson and Ron Arad.  Distinctive contours and biomorphic forms are generated when combining Arad and Newson’s design philosophies. The inspired models below (with corresponding diagrams) leverage both designers’ shared preference for fluid and timeless forms that balance heavy, solid materials with delicate, weightless contours. Conversely, the designers differ on methods. Arad’s vast works comprises cut metal while Newson mainly uses cast fiberglass with laminates.
