An hour of sketching never hurts. It gives clear direction to approach the scene and tackle the tricky parts.
Terrain and Elements setup
Populating the scene with groundcover can easily crash the machine. To avoid it proxy object or primitive placeholder objects are used.
Texturing and Lighting
Render and Color correction
Render passes and object buffers are absolutely critical for post production.
Mist Simulation
Voxel-based smoke simulation using Turbulence FD. Rendered using standard renderer in a completely different scene. In conjunction with depth pass, the mist can be placed precisely anywhere in the scene.
Background and Effects compositing
Simple backgrounds can be created in image editing softwares; saves a lot of time. Compositing mist was trickier than I thought.
Final image
Weekend well spent. Back to office tomorrow.
