The Emma Eaton Mystery Novels

by Louis Tridico

Emma Eaton finally gets her first big break: the young historian is chosen to head up the restoration of a forgotten, rundown plantation home. Out of her depth but eager to prove herself, she takes on the daunting task with the help of her friends, including gun-toting, salty-tongued nun Sister Gertrude O'Malley and ex-NFL defensive lineman-turned-archaeologist Gibraltar Jones. Together they get caught up in modern-day mysteries with deadly links to the past. From helping the FBI stop a deadly serial killer in the French Quarter, to the search for a priceless treasure, to uncovering the truth behind four hidden tombs deep in the swamp, Emma and friends discover that history has a way of teaching its own frightening lessons.

Book 1: Redcoat

A British diplomat is murdered in the French Quarter, run through with a sword. In his hand is a metal button from a 200-year-old British Redcoat’s uniform. The FBI and Scotland Yard suspect this is no random murder. A panicked city thinks a ghost walks among them. But the authorities aren’t so sure, and they turn to local historian Emma Eaton for help. She reluctantly pulls herself away from a major restoration project at a dilapidated plantation home. Joining her is her eclectic team of researchers: ex-NFL defensive lineman and archaeologist Gibraltar Jones, salty-tongued old nun Sister Gertrude, and dashing Scotland Yard Inspector Tony Spencer. As the body count rises, they begin to connect the murders to the fate of a missing British soldier from the Battle of New Orleans and to a prominent New Orleans family who may have secrets to hide. But as Emma unravels more of the mystery, it puts her closer to an unbelievable truth, and the point of the sword of The Redcoat.

Book 2: The Killing Cross

Historian and restoration architect Emma Eaton is busy bringing to life the dilapidated Gladewood Plantation when the owner sends her on an impossible quest: find a legendary and priceless gold-and-jeweled cross rumored to be hidden somewhere on the plantation grounds. There’s one catch. A ruthless and relentless rival has stumbled upon an important clue from the past and already has a head start. But as Emma picks up the trail, she awakens a darker, more sinister foe that may be hiding the cross and a secret so devastating, it’s worth killing Emma and her friends to protect it.
Book 3: The Last Island

Four elaborate mausoleums are found deep in the Louisiana swamp, far from any town. Inside are 21 bodies, yet there are no markings, no names, no dates. Historian Emma Eaton is asked to investigate. What she discovers leads to a mystery that began during a violent hurricane in 1856, with connections to a crazed itinerant preacher and a centuries-old feud between two prominent families. But there are forces at work to stop her. One, a reclusive Native American who wants the tombs left alone. The other, the massive floodwaters of the Mississippi River, threatening to destroy a dam and wash away the answers. Either could bury Emma once and for all, and forever hide the secrets of Last Island.
