THE MESSAGE As mentioned, we set out to depict one of the facts of our times, an everyday object that is part of our ever faster city lives where the rhythm of life sets the pace to our day as we rush from one place to another. Sedia45 represent our modern lifestyle and, at the same time, our answer to this lifestyle. In designing the chair to look like an armchair, we are trying to beat time by using something called Ready-Made; namely, we are trying to put a domestic object (which everyone knows as something to relax in) into a context that is very different from the ambience in which it is usually used. In so doing, we are trying to surprise the onlooker by putting him before something that attracts his attention. Our main objective is to give people the chance to stop, relax, think, reflect, observe, let his mind wander, rest, fall asleep; it is, apart from all the other things, an invitation to stop and to solve all the problems of a lifestyle spent running after time. The main purpose is to create something that can help our modern society, to try to break us away from the repetitive lifestyle that so marks our every day. Sedia45 is three times higher than a normal armchair (a normal armchair stands about 50cm off the ground); as such, we have a wide view of what is beneath us. Indeed, one of the features that sets this chair apart from any others is its very height (tot. 2.25m, seat level is 1.35m). When sitting so high up, a person can look down on the world from a new perspective, a view that will stir emotions in that person. So, we are interested in stirring emotions in our fellows through certain aspects: the height, the way a person has to sit, the way the chair envelopes us. - The height: we have been attracted by heights ever since we were children. Just think about when we used to climb trees, or at the seaside when we saw the lifeguard's tower from where he scanned the horizon, or even when our parents lifted us up onto the umpire's seat on the edge of the beach volley court. Every child and every parent has had at least this experience, an experience that is passed down from generation to generation. As the cycle approaches again, people are driven to dream, to let their imagination run free via personal reflections. - The way a person sits: playing while climbing. It will not be easy for a person to jump up or in any case climb onto the chair; thus, getting onto the chair will become a game thanks to a simple natural movement that hinges on the idea of climbing up a tree, an "childlike" movement that lies in all of us, a movement which, in this case, will be stressed and even remembered. -The way the chair comfortably enwraps you; here we looked at the US monument of president Lincoln. The chair he is sitting in looks very comfortable, but it also gives a feeling of wellbeing, tranquillity, prosperity, trust and control. In order to stress these features we needed to give the seated person a positive feeling that entices him, once he is sat, to feel at ease and to let his thoughts transport him.
