Alexandria, Egypt - Mixed Media

Many foreigners know Egypt to be a romanticized place, one where the great pyramids stand magestically and camels roam happily. I know it to be the place of my family's origin and the home to my extended family. Upon my visit in 2015, I formulated a new opinion about this far off land which then inspired a work of art.
The suberbs of Cairo.
Inspired by the streets of Egypt... It was very different from my home of the USA. They have no system for disposing of their garbage, which was one of the most memorable shocks of my visit in July 2015.
My travels influence my work, and upon returning from Egypt, I felt compelled to make a beautifully disgusting mixed media streetscape from my photography that was taken in Alexandria.
3D trash blending in with the photo.
White, clear, and metalic trash of many textures.
A photo from the living room of my family's home in Cairo, Egypt.
The frame I chose for my work was inspired by the culture of the Egyptian people. No matter their social status, they adorn their homes with apparent nice gold colored frames and embellished furniture. Their apartments can be falling apart on the outside, but on the inside, you won't be surprised to find something like this.
