The Monster Project 2015

The Monster Project invited me to join in on the fun this year: kids draw monsters and artists from all over the world re-create them in their own styles. The final drawings are presented to the kids, to help them recognize the power of their own imagination.

Choosing a drawing was super hard, as there were so many awesome kids' drawings! Finally I went with a drawing by a girl named Vennja, which you can see below. I loved the intricate shape of the monster, but it looked pretty gory with all the blood! Or maybe the monster is just eating strawberry pudding with chopsticks? In the end the bloody blobs became red rocks floating in space, whereas the arm sticking out of the monster's mouth was re-shaped into a tongue with 5 pointy ends.
During the process I thought it would be nice to add a space ship and an astronaut, so the illustration would depict a bit more of a story. This scene was almost begging to be made into a classic science fiction pulp cover, so I added some textures and monster related texts to complete the look.
I hope you like the result! Please be sure to check out all the other monsters here on Behance! Or visit the Monster Project's Kickstarter campaign and help them realize things like activity books, professional prints and expanding the Project to more schools.

Thanks!
