Sunset over Lake Michigan

Sunset at Grand Haven, Michigan on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in about 1975. Originally shot with Kodachrome transparency film and later scanned to a digital image. As I was shooting the sunset I noticed that a "second" horizon seemed to appear. The water was cool with warmer air above creating an interesting refraction of the sunlight as the sun set. Look closely at image 2 to see the "double" horizon. As the sun continued to set, the sun appears to split until in the last image where the bottom of the sun seems to reappear even though the sun has almost fully disappeared below the horizon. This is refraction at its finest.
