Mañana - Cuban Street Art

This series was inspired by my journey
trough the beautiful island of Cuba.
These are my experiments in an attempt
to visualise its people’s passion and soul.
With its rich, notorious and diverse history.
They are truly looking for their
own unique identity and way of life.

And that’s exactly what makes it so interesting. "
Tocororo

We first heard the story of the tocororo through a local guide we met.
Its beautiful colours mimicking the Cuban flag, this wonderful creature is Cuba`s national bird. Reflecting the cuban spirit and openness, legend says it cannot live in captivity, dying of sadness if caged.
Supposedly, this represents the determination of the Cuban people. Our guide disagreed. He said he didn’t believe the bird is in any way like the people,
because “todavía estamos vivos”. We are still alive.

Son

First heard in the east of Cuba,
this genre is a blend of Spanish guitar and African rhythm.
A unique back and forth where the soul of the musician
and his instrument become one.

Ron

The two most famous cuban traditions are
the perfect mix for a life filled with joie de vivre:
a warm cigar after a drink with an even warmer taste.
A pleasure they’ll gladly share,
which is typical of their warm and open nature.

There’s nothing quite like letting the warmth of an exquisite cigar
feed your desires as it fuels the fire of your soul.
