On December 7, 1941 My Father, Alfred Carl Nielsen Jr. was serving as a missionary in California. (Part of the Western States Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) By January of 1942 he had been released from his missionary duties and had enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on a Navy patrol craft, PC 583. I found this stack of pictures of the men he served with. I recently started scanning them and trying to put together a presentation. This gives us some insight into how they lived and interacted with each other on board a small ship for months at sea.

My dad is second from the right on the bottom row on page three.
