"Some Kind of Blue"
poetry
This piece, properly inspired by the music of Miles Davis, was one of the first published pieces I was wholeheartedly proud of. Between the freedom of poetry and the structure of time and critiques, my creative efforts were realized...and all from the mundane adversity of being at an airport.
reads:

"If being at an airport could pour Blues
in Green like the mute of his trumpet sigh,
spats and rolls interjecting howls of his soul,
slowing the goodbyes that strain;
if these sky-high windows filled with damp hues,
the early morning's heat sliding drops down their insides,
could hang with the bright echoes of Cannonball
and Coltrane;
slow lines made for mothers,
tracks 2 & 4 helping the stutter
steps, tah-ta-ta-tahs gliding me along;
security saying, "Get out your proof of purchase,'' my fingertips surface
badges holding my back against the wall.
Then this stale slice of freedom, my ability
to fly, would shadow my sleep, my heavy
arms would ride high, like the tops of holy trees
or cumulonimbus clouds.
Mr. Evans, Cobb and Chambers let them see
if you halt diagrammatic procedures that are uninspiring
of forcing us to wear yellow masks or buckle our lap belts, restricting entities
we would all know what it really means to be free
and fly."
