Sam Manion's profile

Junior Year 2014/2015

My name is Sam Manion. I am a senior at Minuteman Technical High School. Thank you for taking the time to review my online portfolio. Please also see my resume at the bottom of this page.
8 Cafe and Bar was a project that taught us how to set up a typical business stationery. For this project, I created the business card, envelope and letterhead as seen here, but I also created a folder for the company as well as a couple of animated ads for websites through Photoshop.
For the next 3 pieces, I was asked by a fellow student to create a mustached-themed poster and label set. She was running for SKILLS USA, a competition held each year for students at technical high schools. She wanted a tabloid poster, a U.S. letter sized poster/handout and water bottle labels.
The I'm Worth More project was for a Watertown based organization that provides support for young people at risk. There was a contest to see whose poster in our class as well as other graphic design classes in Massachusetts. Although I did not win, I do think this project was on of my best from last year.
The next next project was also a contest, but this time for Minuteman Technical High School. They needed a poster for an upcoming Art and Design show. We had full creative control, but we had to use geometric shapes and patterns. This was one of my favorite projects last year.
The next project was just to design a simple Holiday Card for my family. I decided to stray away from any religious themes for this project, and decided to use a strong color palette and simple shapes.
Yet another contest... the next project was for an Art and Literary Magazine contest Minuteman holds every year. The only requirement for this project was the use of an illustration. I used a characterized drawing of Shiva, the Hindu God of creation. I drew Him first with pencil and then drew over Him with pen. Afterwards, I colored Him in with colored pencil and scanned Him into Photoshop where I made the final edits.
The final two pieces of my online portfolio were for the Minuteman drama club. My drama teacher came to me personally to ask me to create his vision of the poster. He needed a tabloid sized poster and a U.S. letter flyer as well as some edited photos and a Playbill. This project was my hardest project ever due to the fast due-date and the heavy Photoshop work that was required.
