I entered a mall competition on re-creating worn shoes. It was one of my best artworks and I poured my heart into creating it. Unfortunately, I shouldn't have trusted the organizers because as one of the first to pass my work and my write-up, I was startled come show day because the contestant after me had the same hand-painted idea, only his design was an exact copy of a Sylvia Ji artwork and his description was copied from mine. I have strong belief that one of the organizers had given him my description to re-word it. And that guy won. Worst part is that they get to keep the boots as part of the contract. It sucks, but nevertheless I'm still proud of what I accomplished.
