Endangered species

Ever since I can remember I've thought tigers were beautiful animals. I thought this piece could bring some awareness to an issue some may not know about.

Step 1-used a  cracked glass image to create this look. open the image in photoshop duplicate it and pressed ctrl j to remove the color. change the duplicate layer blend mode to color burn and reduce opacity to 40%

Step 2-found a free image of a tiger and under the image menu-adjustments choose gradient map.

Step 3-under filter menu-textures choose grain. change the intensity to 5, contrast to 50 and grain type to speckle.

Step 4-copy the tiger image over to the cracked glass image. change layer blend to multiply. I enlarged my tiger photo to fit the size of the cracked glass image.

Step 5-under hue/saturation change the settings to 30 and the lightness to 10.

Step 6-in the channels panel make a duplicate of the red channel by clicking and dragging to the create a new channel icon at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7-select the gradient tool and choose the foreground to transparent gradient. i blacked out everything but the tiger using the gradien tool by clicking and dragging the cursor around the tiger.

Step 8-ctrl L to open the levels dialog. play with these values until the image looks right to you.

Step 9-click the background layer and go to select menu and choose load selection. click the red copy layer and click ok.

Step 10-copy this layer pressing ctrl J. drag the layer so that it is under the tiger image. change blend mode to screen and opacity to 75%.

Step11-click the type tool and add some text, select the move tool and press and hold ctrl while clicking on the text layer thumbnail. under select menu choose inverse.

Step 12-create a new layer and select the gradient tool once again. press and hold the alt key and click a color in the image. I chose the lightest color on the tiger. click the eye icon in the text layer and change the blend mode to dissolve and change the opacity to 75%. click and drag over the text and down to apply the effect.
