Every year the Wavescape Film Festival invites artists to turn surfboards into works of art. These boards are auctioned off and the proceeds go to ocean conservation and safety organisations. We shot a series of shorts that take you inside the studios and minds of some of the great South African artists.
1. Roger Ballen
Roger Ballen’s mind is one of the most fascinating. We get a rare glimpse into his studio and talk to him about making art, and about surfing.
2. Peter van Straten
Peter van Straten’s surrealist painting quickly takes you to another world. His artboard for Wavescape’s charity project was easily my favourite of the year, and sold for R28000.
