Photographer's comment:

I had been wanting for this opportunity to present itself for a long time. And the results certainly didn't disappoint; with night photography clearly becoming one of my favourite photography genres. Using a tripod and remote shutter release, my Pentax K20D and Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 EX DC lens combination produced excellent results. My efforts to capture Sydney Harbour Bridge from different angles yielded a pleasing result from afar on Observatory Hill - although truth be known - in hindsight I wish I had varied my perspective to shoot tighter with the bridge occupying the left third of the frame and taking in slightly more of the scene to the right.

On my meandering walk back to Circular Quay train station, I walked under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and spotted a sublime shooting point below the bridge and also in view of the Opera House. I returned three nights later for sunset and took what I consider to be some of the best shots I've ever captured with a camera. The "EX" lens quality is outstanding and has yielded sharp, well exposed and richly coloured results at the 17mm zoom extremity. Exposures were at f11 ranging between 15-55s at ISO 100.

The Museum of Contemporary Art shots were somewhat of an afterthought whilst still trying to get back to Circular Quay train station. Taken at f11 with 2s exposure, and alteration of the zoom during the exposure, the results are somewhat of a play on words. These shots are really fun to take with the time-saving bonus of a 2 second exposure instead of waiting around for 30 or 50 seconds with the other shots.

As an aside, I also have the Pentax 12-24mm lens, which is a solidly performing lens, however it is not as sharp as the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 EX DC - although I suppose the Pentax 12-24mm lens falls into the wide-lens category making a direct comparison unfair.
