Ready for Spring Break? Marilyn Weller, a freshman at LSU, is beating the freshman fifteen and getting her beach body ready.
Marilyn Weller checks in at the University Recreation, or the UREC, by scanning her LSU ID as she prepares to start her work out.
The UREC is crowded with people on a Thursday afternoon as everyone tries to fit in their workout for the day.
Players stand near the UREC court as they participate in a game of basketball.
Weller trains on a mechanical bike as she tries to get her heart rate and cardio up.
Weller engages in a weight exercise that helps to strengthen her buttocks as, well as her arms.
Weller has #neauxlimits when it comes to exercising, as demonstrated by her daily lung set.
Weller holds her plank for a full minute while exercising her core, arms and legs.
Trainers often advise to stretch after engaging in physical activity and Weller follows this advice by stretching and strengthenings her calf muscles.
Weller rehydrates after her hour workout at the gym.
I really enjoyed participating in the project, especially because I love to workout. For lent this year I have dedicated an hour of my time working out at the University Recreation. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to capture a story about something I was familiar with.

I liked trying to get different angles for this project. It was interesting to be able to start thinking outside of the box and trying something that was out of my comfort level. I found that taking various angles and having too many pictures than too little was extremely beneficial when starting the editing process. I found that more general pictures, such as the overview of the gym, was better at capturing where exactly the event was taking place.

A major disadvantage I had was trying to capture physical activity while it was happening. For example, I tried to take pictures of my subject running but most came out blurry. I'm not sure if it was because of my camera quality or not but that was definitely a struggle. I tried to get an image that would accurately sum up the whole photo essay (the drinking from the water bottle) but I was disappointed once I began editing because it did not turn out the way I imagined. One thing I wish I could have had more experience on was learning what angles and what subject matter was the most appealing to the eye.

I also think I may have edited the pictures too much. In some cases I tried to make the surroundings in a pictuer blurry but it ended up making the picture look like it lost some quality. Also, when I edited some pictures black and white and made certain things stand out I think that also looked a bit off.
