SURVA*
An ancient ritual for purification of contaminated visual environment.

SURVA is a project result of the collaboration between the well known with their interventions in the urban environment, Sunshiners and Farce. The authors are directly influenced by the effects of this pollution and their longing for a harmonious, balanced and psychologically fitted visual environment. One of the reasons all the works to be produced using media like waste materials is that they appear to be traditional sources of visual pollution.
By choosing SURVA for the name of the project and the date 14 of January for its start, it is a direct reference to the time when our ancestors gave the beginning of the mummers’ games and chasing the evil from their homes.
One of the tasks of SURVA is to synthesize the character of the image in the mummers’ custom with the style of the contemporary street art. The main purpose of the project is that it raises the serious question about the future of the coming generations. SURVA tries to worn the society about the environment in which they shall grow and it develops the problem about the apparent lack of aesthetics in our surroundings.
By removing the objects from their typical environment and placing them in the absolutely dark gallery space, they become images immersed in timelessness like the images in the ancient Bulgarian tradition. One of the typical moments of the project is the combination of fluorescent paint and UV light, which symbolize the mystical beginning and the eternal conflict between the visible and the invisible.
