This book explains how ten species of animals are affected by different types of pollution. I carefully chose species that are not the usual figure heads of this topic, like the polar bear. I created illustrations integrating what was killing the species into their environment or what was happening to the species. For example in the illustration for the Brown Pelican the cracks in the eggs are in the shape of DDT molecules which was causing many bird
species to produce weak egg shells that broke under the weight of incubating parents. The illustrations are black pen drawings with watercolor splatter backgrounds. Watercolor was a great media for this project because it can be perceived as organic as well as toxic and chemical-ish.
