2010
Just as photographs are representations of the past, so are the aged objects that we now call antiques. Like my mother's aged photographs that I have found disgracefully stored in a box instead of out in the open, there are ways that antique stores arrange their objects to unintentionally create new ideas. It may be difficult to take familiar symbols at face value when their surroundings are so foreign. The environments I have explored in different antique shops are forcing new ideas to surface about these items. Whether their placement hints at irony or abandonment, discovering these antiques is similar to finding a box of your mother's old photographs hidden in a shoebox on the top shelf.
