The Cuban Trogon (Priotelus temnurus), referred to in different regions of Cuba as “Tocororo,” “Tocoloro,” or “Guatini,” is the Cuban national bird. This designation is possibly due to two reasons. First, its feathers bear the three colors of the national flag. Second, it is a bird that cannot live in captivity, dying of sadness if it is caged, reflecting the Cuban national character as a freedom-loving people. See more details about this piece HERE.
