Reservoir Hill, Baltimore (2014)
Digital Photography
Coming from Singapore, where most buildings are barely a century old and that they mostly look similar, the beautiful and historical architecture of Reservoir Hill (Baltimore, Maryland, USA) enchanted me. The well-maintained row houses from the late 19th - early 20th century eludes such charm despite their age. I was particularly drawn to the "Disney castle-like" cone roofs that adorned many of the buildings. Even though the houses look similar, at each turn around the corner, there is always something characteristic to differentiate each of the buildings - be it the subtle changes of the window grills or to the drastically different landscape the house is situated in.
This body of work sees me investigating the American landscape through the eye of a Singaporean/Asian and documents my attempt at translating the essence and allure of Reservoir Hill through photographs.
