Making a kaleidoscope

First step to creating a kaleidoscope is choosing your photos.
A rusty barrel, a broken tree branch, a cactus flower and an old dead tree. These are the photographs I used to create the kaleiodscope seen below.
The rusy barrel is the bottom layer. Layer the broken tree branch on top using a difference blending mode.
Then layer the cactus flower on top of that using an overlay blending mode.
Flip the image horizontal.
Crate a new document sized 11 in. x 20 in. (it can be any size you want, that's just what I use.) Duplicate the image, flip it horizontal and move it over 'til it lines up like this.

Duplicate the previous image and flip it vertical and move it into place. Repeat four times 'til you have an image like the one below.
I do like this design, but it feels somewhat incomplete to me. So I'll add some old tree and see what it looks like after.
Create an old tree pattern the same way you created the kaleidoscope design. Duplicate, flip horizontal, duplicate and flip vertical. Then turn the original tree photo upside down and repeat the process to make the image below.

Take the tree patterns and place them over your design and give them both a soft light blending mode.
There you have it, the final design or as I call it kaleidoscope K_13. Currently I have twenty-four designs. You can see all of them on my website.
